Steph’s favourite recipes that challenge diet culture

It’s time to stop feeling guilty about food!

For too long diet culture has demonised certain foods and made us fear that the consumption of some foods might change our bodies.

At Kic, we say screw diet culture! We’re all about building a positive relationship with food and that’s why we continue to create balanced and delicious meals that will nourish your mind and body and help you feel good with every mouthful.

We want to help change the way you view certain foods and remind you that to lead a healthy lifestyle you should be enjoying delicious and nutritious foods, because food gives us energy for life!

I remember back in the day being fearful of foods like pasta and bread as they were always shown as “the enemy” and then years later I realised it was all absolute BS.

That’s why the Kic team and I have put so much time, love and energy into Kic’s recipe hub. We want you to feel confident to cook any Kic recipe knowing that you’ll be supporting a healthy & balanced diet with every bite.

The Kic recipe hub houses over 850 recipes, many of which according to diet culture wouldn’t be considered “healthy” – yep, diet culture is looking at you Creamy Mac and Cheese! Every single Kic recipe is also approved by our resident dietitian, Liv.

That said, I wanted to share with you some of my favourite Kic recipes which 8 years ago I wouldn’t have ever believed could be included or considered “healthy”.

    • Creamy Mac and Cheese
    • One Pot Lasagna
    • Butter Chicken
    • Classic Carbonara
    • Cheeseburger Sausage Rolls
    • Apple and Cinnamon Scrolls
    • Choc Chip Blondies
    • Chunky Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies

Once upon a time in my mind these types of recipes were labelled as “guilty pleasure” or “bad” foods and would result in instant guilt after eating them – but that is no longer the case.

I hope that reading this reminds you that no food is good or bad and all foods should be enjoyed. I hope that you feel empowered and excited to enjoy more Kic recipes as you know they’re going to support your health.

Finally, I hope that as a society we can continue to move away from demonising food, be kinder to our bodies and minds and Kic’ body image expectations to the kerb.
