1. Pack Healthy Snacks
Often the snacks available when we are out and about aren’t the most nutritious snacks. Packing some healthy snacks like a KIC ball or some fruit and nuts to take to work or uni can save you from needing the vending machine as often.
2. Make Time for Meal Prep (or Planning)
Planning or preparing meals in advance means not only will you eat better but you will find yourself saving time during the week, reducing your food waste and likely saving some $ too.
3. Have More Home Cooked Meals
As tempting as UberEats is, learning to cook is such an important life skill. Focus on reducing the number of meals you order in and starting to cook more. You’ll be surprised at home easy it is to make home cooked versions of your favourite takeaway meals.
4. Swap some Animal Protein for Plant Protein
Protein is incredibly important for our muscles but too much animal protein like meat isn’t great for the environment or our health. Having just one meat free meal a week is a great starting point. Try making one of the vegetarian recipes from the app!
5. Drink more water
So simple, but so easy to forget. Being hydrated will boost your energy levels, improve your concentration, improve your skin and overall make you feel more alive! Carry a water bottle with you everywhere and at the end of the day record how much water you drank and reward yourself at the end of the week for smashing your goal.
6. Respect your Hunger and Fullness
Honour your hunger and fullness. Pay attention to when you are hungry and when you are full. Get in the habit of checking in with yourself before and after your meals. How hungry are you? How satisfied are you? By listening to your true appetite you are able to regulate your portion sizes to what you truly need.
7. Increase your Variety
Having a variety of plant foods is one of the best things you can do to improve the health of your gut. Rather than having the same 2-3 vegetables or fruits each day, next time you’re at the supermarket branch out and try a new fruit or veggie you might not have had before, or haven’t had in a long time. You gut (and taste buds) will thank you for it.
